The Dead River rafting trip is Maine's most remote wilderness whitewater rafting trip and offers continuous whitewater throughout the entire trip. With beautiful scenery, wildlife, and heart-pumping whitewater, the Dead River in Maine keeps you on your toes. High-volume water with dam controlled flows means reliable water flows and fun for the whole family. There are ten scheduled "Big Water" Dead River White Water Rafting releases throughout the season. No experience necessary. Dam-controlled flows from May through October. There are Class I through Class IV+ rapids. Enjoy great big water rapids, rock gardens, and monster surf holes that will keep everyone WET!!! Come experience the action of river rafting on the Dead River in Maine with Northeast Guide Service.

Frequently Asked Questions about White Water Rafting Trips

  • All equipment provided. State-of-the-art self-bailing rafts, Type V lifejackets, paddles, helmets, all safety equipment, transportation, Registered Maine Guide in every boat, photo slideshow of the days adventure (available to purchase at an additional cost), and our famous river lunch are all included. Wetsuits are available at an additional cost and required on some trips.
  • A user fee of $12.50 to cover road access to the river and a State of Maine head fee is added to each rafting guest.
  • All Dead River rafting trips meet at the Northeast Guide Service - North Maine Woods Basecamp at 8am.
  • Video is available on any trip at an additional cost and must be requested in advance.
  • Minimum 8 participants on guided trips or join an existing trip.
  • Sport Rafts are available for all Dead River trips. Sport Rafts are the smallest rafts on the river. Everything looks and feels bigger. Sport rafts are also driven by only the most experienced guides.
    • $20 per person for a 14' raft (6 person minimum)
    • $30 per person for a 13' raft (4 person minimum)

           *Sport Rafts guarantee that you will have your own raft.

  • Book a trip with 16 people and the 16th person is FREE!!!
