Penobscot River Rafting
The West Branch of the Penobscot River is a classic technical Maine whitewater rafting trip and one of the most scenic stretches of whitewater in the country. With beautiful scenery, wildlife, and pool drop characteristics, the West Branch of the Penobscot River is one of the most challenging rivers in New England whitewater rafting. Experience Maine whitewater rafting at its best. We run two separate and distinct sections of the West Branch of the Penobscot River. We raft the Seboomook Section, which has Class II through IV rapids in the spring and still runs into the summer with low-volume Class II and III rapids, which are great for family rafting trips. We also run the Gorge and Cribworks Section: this gem has high-volume water with dam controlled flows, which means reliable water flows and a thrill seeker's fix. This is a Class III-V river that is steep and technical by nature. Step it up a notch and "Run the Gauntlet": this is a chance to run the Upper Penobscot River Gorge twice. Twice the Class V, twice the excitement. Let Northeast Guide Service show you what we love about Maine: beautiful scenery, some of the best whitewater in the country, and maybe even a moose. Enjoy classic whitewater rafting in Maine. All of our Penobscot River whitewater rafting trips meet at our North Maine Woods Basecamp at Historic Pittston Farm.

The Penobscot River Seboomook Section offers us a whitewater playground. The winter thaw and spring rains cause this section of whitewater to become a boater's paradise. Ten distinct pool drop features in about 3 miles. We run this section of river three times and play each feature hard. We are the only commercial whitewater outfitter on this section of river. In the summer the waters calm to a consistent daily water flow that is great for families, youth groups, and swimming. This rafting trip is laid back and relaxing, while still tackling ten rapids and drops, three times!!!
